Dec. 16, 1998

Question:
That's all the time we have for tonight. Any final thoughts, Dana?
Webmaster -- Anytown, USA -- 1998/12/16 17:48

Answer:
I do thank you all for participating in the ABL Chat. I had a great time. It was fun -- And I'll see you at some games!

Question:
You tore the Lasers up in the SJ Arena a few weeks ago. Are you playing better or just playing more?
JJ -- San Jose -- 1998/12/16 17:39

Answer:
The San Jose game -- I mean that game I just couldn't miss. My jump shot was flowing and it was a great confidence booster for me. But for the team it wasn't so great because we lost that game by a fairly large amount. (I'm part of that team.) I do think I'm playing better this year because I'm stronger and I can get in there and bang better. I hope to do the same thing next summer and get that much better.

Question:
A lot of folks here state that the addition of Jesse Kenlaw as an assistant has put life into the team .What are your feelings about "Coach K"?
Coach Michael Lewis -- Albuquerque -- 1998/12/16 17:33

Answer:
Jess wonderful discussions before and after practice. She inspires the team to do our best. I think she pushes us as well as Coach H. They both push us to put our full potential out -- and she also dresses very nice from her head to her toes.

Question:
Dana, I know now you don't have much free time but how do you like to spend your time when you're not playing or practicing for bball?
Cleo -- MS -- 1998/12/16 17:27

Answer:
Well, off days I usually do things that need to be done. I go to clubs sometimes and basically hang out and play my play station.

Question:
Hi Dana! I'm happy to see you getting more pt this year. I'm really enjoying watching the Xplosion this season. Besides getting Crystal healthy again, what do you think the Xplosion need to do to get a few more wins?
kerry -- denver -- 1998/12/16 17:31

Answer:
First, thank you. And besides getting Crystal back, we just need to get everybody healthy and back together again so we can develop a rhythm.

Question:
Dana, what do you want to do (career) after your playing days are over -- Coach?
Cealyon -- Storrs -- 1998/12/16 17:29

Answer:
I'd love to be a coach. probably not on the professional level -- maybe college or high school or even little kids.

Question:
Dana, will the Xplosion ever beat Columbus? Please try to make it happen at home...
Marla -- Colorado Sprgs -- 1998/12/16 17:14

Answer:
Well, we're gettin closer. The last game we lost by 2. I think that's a game that we gave away. That's a game that showed us we are a really good team and we can beat Columbus and beat any team in the ABL.

Question:
If a Chamique Holsclaw were to be drafted by the X,What would be your reaction?
Coach Michael Lewis -- Albuquerque -- 1998/12/16 17:30

Answer:
I'd be happy -- I think Chamique is a great college player.

Question:
What type of music do you like and what song would you use as a theme song to get u ready for a game?
Cleo -- MS -- 1998/12/16 17:31

Answer:
R&B is my favorite -- and Boys to Men -- My theme song would be Hakuna Matata -- that's the song they play for me when I come into the game!

Question:
Dana, being one of the greatest rebounders the college game has ever seen, many of us are suprised to see you score a lot more than you rebound, any reasons for this?
chad bundrock -- reno -- 1998/12/16 17:12

Answer:
Yeah, there is a reason -- I'm not tall enough -- just kidding...I think it's just another aspect of my game. There's a lot more athletitism in the professional game. Going up against people like Natalie Williams and Taj McWilliams puts a lot of competition in there.

Question:
Who would you like to see drafted by the Explosion next year?
Coach Michael Lewis -- Albuquerque -- 1998/12/16 17:13

Answer:
Well, I'd like to see Chamique HOldsclaw, but how likely that would be, I don't know. That would be a great addition to our team. I have a story about her. At the Olympic festival in my sophomore year in college, we were sitting next to each other on the bench, and she said "I hope I do well," so I was giving her a pep talk (I didn't know who she was) and she drove to the basket really hard and broke my ankles. Later on the coach had to tell me who she was.

Question:
How has Linda Hargrove been as coach?
Marla -- Colorado Sprgs -- 1998/12/16 17:12

Answer:
I think Linda has been a great addition because she brings a new quality to the team. I think she's a great coach who has good strategies. And she dresses really well.

Question:
How do you like life in Colorado?
chad bundrock -- reno -- 1998/12/16 17:14

Answer:
I party all the time -- just kidding...I think Colorado is full of a lot of opportunities for athletes. They have the mountains that you can have access to or you can stay home. I like to ski -- 24/7 -- just kidding. Practices? Who practices??

Question:
Related to the person who asked about the Xplosion's lack of success vs. the Quest, why is the Quest so good?
Terry -- Columbus -- 1998/12/16 17:18

Answer:
They've been playing together for 3 years. They know what another person on the court is going to do before they do it. They have a great team. Lots of teams have great individuals, but you can't beat a great team with individuals.

Question:
Hi Dana -- What do you like best about your second season with the Xs? Good to see you playing more, by the way.
Cealyon -- Storrs -- 1998/12/16 17:20

Answer:
I like the team. Not that I didn't like the team last year, but we're more together. We stick by each other better, and I believe our chemistry and consistency is going to come.

Question:
What' the most points you have scored in one ABL game? What about in college?
Marla -- Colorado Sprgs -- 1998/12/16 17:15

Answer:
I think 29 in the ABL, and I believe 32 in college.

Question:
Do you feel that the Explosion still have an inside shot to the playoffs,Even though you started off slow without Crystal?
Coach Michael Lewis -- Albuquerque -- 1998/12/16 17:09

Answer:
Oh, most definitely. I think we'll have Crystal back and healthy in about a week or so. Alisa's ankle is getting better. I think a lot of teams peaked early. When we start playing the way we know we can play, we'll have a tremendous impact on the rest of the season.

Question:
With Crystal returning from injury, Edna's strong play, Tari's tremendous last couple of games, and your increased contribution, what do you think the rest of the season holds for you guys?
chad bundrock -- reno -- 1998/12/16 17:10

Answer:
I mean I think that we were hit with a lot of injuries early on, and when we all get healthy that will make for a stronger team. With Crystal injured, others like me and Keisha have had to step up, and that has made our game stronger, so we can all contribute more. I think things will improve when everyone is healthy and playing together.

Question:
Hi Dana, heard good things about you this year. What has changed about your game, development, this year over last year?
Ann Miller -- Norwich CT -- 1998/12/16 17:08

Answer:
Over the summer I worked really hard on my game. I worked on my strength bigtime and getting quicker on my feet and so forth, so I'm getting more of a chance this year to display my abilities.

Question:
Dana, what do you think of Denver compared to your hometown in NJ?
John -- Steamboat Springs -- 1998/12/16 17:09

Answer:
I think they're very different. I like New Jersey a lot, and I love Denver. I don't know where I'll live in the future, but both places present an opportunity as a place to live. I love the mountains and the oceans in New Jersey and the environment I grew up in.

Question:
What do you feel were the differences in your two home games against Seattle?
Carol -- Tacoma -- 1998/12/16 17:05

Answer:
I think that just displayed the type of season we've been having. At home we played them really good. We haven't put together a whole game yet. We're on a roller coaster ride. We're trying to keep practice consistent to achieve the concentration it takes to beat a team like San Jose.

Question:
How much energy does Debbie Black give to the other players? I get exhausted just watching her!
Jeff -- San Jose -- 1998/12/16 17:04

Answer:
Debbie does come to every game and every practice with a lot of energy. I think she gets us out of a lot of slumps. Every team needs a player like Debbie Black with that kind of energy.

Question:
Hello,Dana. The team seems to have rallied around the play of Tari lately and the San Jose win was big breaking their streak. Do you feel that momentum is swinging the teams way headed into the next two games?
Coach Michael Lewis -- Albuquerque -- 1998/12/16 17:05

Answer:
Yes -- that was Seattle, by the way -- who's streak we broke. Yes -- Tari is one of our marquee players and she's playing very well. We all have to play well together to win. We do want to break San Jose's streak, though.

Question:
How are you doing tonight?
ABL Media Relations -- Palo Alto -- 1998/12/16 17:05

Answer:
I'm getting dressed for a party that we're having with the team. And I'm getting ready to play San Jose Friday.
