"The Pirates and the Vashon community lose big-time with the accidental death of Pirate catcher senior Greg Smith in a one-car accident at approximately 5:30am Saturday May 15, 1999. Greg had driven in the last run of the 7-3 victory against Eatonville and had attended a post-game beach bonfire. He apparently fell asleep driving home. Alcohol was not a factor. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and by all who knew of him."

The Vashon Boys' baseball team plays in the WIAA 2A Nisqually League against some familiar high schools: Eatonville, Foster, Orting, and Steilacoom, and then in WIAA District 3, Chimacum, Cleveland, Klahowya, and Port Townsend.
