Summer 2003 volleyball camp ends at Vashon High School!
Sixteen Pirates in upcoming grades 10-12 turned out for the summer
2003 volleyball camp at the Vashon High School gym, July 7-10, coached
by returning Varsity coach Dave Plypick, 2002 JV coach Rochelle Wolfe,
and John Sage.
After over eighteen hours of drills and scrimmages, the entire Varsity
volleyball team (2002 record: 7-6, one win away at Districts from
going on to State) for the coming fall 2003 season looks to be
stronger than last year's team, and much stronger than any team in
recent memory.
Given the performance of the sixteen players who attended, plus the
fact that one 2002 Varsity player attended but couldn't practice, and
that a second 2002 Varsity player couldn't attend camp at all, there
are at least eighteen very strong girls' volleyball players returning
for the 2003 season.
Particularily exciting for Coach Dave Plypick was the performance of
many of last year's Junior Varsity girls. "The overall effort from all
of these girls was great, but I really loved seeing some of last
year's JV girls digging my hardest hits. They stood their ground, took
what I dished out, and made good passes. Our setting was good, our
hitting was good, everybody made great progress."
Ahead for Pirate volleyball: discovering who will step forward and
make an impact at team tryouts starting Monday, August 25, 2003, at
the begining of the fall sports season.
All-in-all, things look really exciting for fall 2003 VHS Pirate
girls' volleyball!
