Another great show by Mary Lawrence, this with her art teacher Carol Schwennesen. In between this show and the one in February at the Wings Gallery, Mary has also been in a group show in Seattle!

This show was shot on-site at the office of the new (to Vashon Island) Puget Consumer's Cooperative Credit Union, located where Books by the Way used to be.

This was a really fun project! Mary is a McMurray 7th grader. I was contacted by her mom, Kathleen, about shooting Mary's paintings which were on display in a group show at Wings Gallery (which is a bird lover's supply store!) on Vashon. I was delighted to do this as I had known Mary when I worked out on the playground at Chautauqua Elementary school. What I found when I arrived to shoot Mary's paintings was some outstanding art of great variety and vision. Be sure to read her Artist's Statement!

I shot Dean's sculpture at his studio. Really great stuff!

Basically two approaches to the lighting: direct, with my on-camera flash pointed right at the subject piece, and indirect, with my flash pointing at the ceiling for a bounce-flash effect.

Again in 2009 I shot the Vashon Allied Arts Art Auction works down at the Beall Greenhouses, and in my studio.

I shot about 133 pieces of art, photography, sculpture, jewelry and textiles that were contributed to the 2008 Vashon Allied Arts Art Auction over about four days in August 2008, both at the studio in my home and down at the Beall Greenhouses. The photography was done for the Art Auction catalog and mailer. This is a paper cut by Aki Sogabe.
