The hydro race around Vashon Island is totally cool! Some newcomers whine about the noise (the boats generally start about 5:00 AM) but as far as I'm concerned, it's a great noise, and it ain't nothing compared to the Quartermaster Harbor fireworks, anyway...
Check out the photos of the trophy at the end, and think about how many names you recognize. It'll tell you something about how long you've lived on Vashon Island...

The Quartermaster Harbor fireworks show has been financed by Islander Tom (formerly of Misty Isle Farms, now of Arizona) Stewart for 15 years. Tom's moved to Arizona, so 2006 is likely the last show of this scale and magnitude we'll see for a long time.
The size and quality of the fireworks show has become something of a Puget Sound legend, as witnessed by the traffic jam (bumper-to-bumper traffic up the Island Highway) after the show as a *lot* of people head north to the Vashon-Fauntleroy ferry.
