Pirate Tennis at the 2000 West Central AA Tournament!These pictures are from Friday, May 19, 2000 |
Girls' Tennis League Playoffs starts Friday May 5 and Saturday May 6 at Curtis High School.
Boys' Tennis District matches will be Friday and Saturday May 12 and 13 at Pac West, Federal Way.
Both Girls' and Boys' Tennis Bi-District playoffs will be held Friday and Saturday May 19 and 20 at Pac West; State is again at the Yakima Racquet Club on Friday and Saturday May 26 and 27.
Baseball will have a Nisqually League tie-breaker Monday May 8; District Playoffs start Tuesday May 9 and Wednesday May 10; Round 1 of State Tournaments start Saturday May 20; Round 2 will also play the 20th.
Fastpitch Playoffs with the Olympic League will be on Wednesday and Thursday May 10 and 11; Bi-District playoffs will be Tuesday May 16; the WCD II playoffs will be at Sprinker Recreation in Tacoma Friday and Saturday May 19 and 20; State will be Friday and Saturday May 26 and 27.
Boys Soccer Bi-District playoffs will be Thurday May 11 and Saturday May 13; Quarter Finals will be Friday May 19 and Saturday May 20; State is Thursday and Friday May 26 and 27 in Vancouver WA.
Both Pirate Girls' and Pirate Boys' Track placed third in the Nisqually League! Track playoffs (runoffs?) will start Tuesday May 9 and Friday May 12 with Sub-Districts at Eatonville; Districts will be Friday May 19 at Lynden Christian; State will be at Eastern WA U in Cheney on Friday and Saturday May 26 and 27.
Golf Districts will start Tuesday May 16 with the Boys at Gold Mountain; Girls' Districts will be Thursday May 18 at Bellingham Country Club; State for both Boys and Girls will be at Bellingham Country Club Monday and Tuesday May 22 and May 23.

Some new faces on the Pirates coaching staff are Rod Ciceri, Fastpitch head coach, and Leslie Selig, assistant coach. Assisting Boys' Soccer head coach Paul Beytebiere is Dan Cullinan. Tom Trigg is Golf head coach; Mike Shigley is assistant coach.
Returning Pirate coaches are: Baseball: Tom Reilly, head coach; Greg Martin, assistant coach. Girls' Tennis: Carol Rice, head coach; Eva Lou Grimsley, assistant coach. Track: Russ Brazil, head coach; Phil Ross, assistant coach.

Winter sports has come to the end of the 1999-2000 season.
WRESTLING placed 5th in State Competition at the Tacoma Dome as a team with the following wrestlers placing:
BOYS' BASKETBALL placed 1st in the Nisqually League this year! They went on to Bi-Districts up in Mount Vernon, and ended up sixth at Bi-Districts.
Pirates named to the All-Nisqually League Team for the boys were Calvin Ento, 1st team and Most Valuable Player; Jesse Davis, Jay Irish and Kenny Ento were named to the 2nd Team.
Calvin Ento was also chosen for the Bi-Distict All Tournament Team and named by the Tacoma News-Tribune for All-Area Players.
The Boys' Varsity Team qualilfied for the WIAA Distiguished Team Scholastic Award with a team GPA of 3.06 at the Fall trimester. The Boys' JV Team qualilfied for the WIAA Distiguished Team Scholastic Award with a team GPA of 3.23 at the Fall trimester.
GIRLS' BASKETBALL tied for 3rd in the Nisqually League.
Pirates named to the All-Nisqually League Team were Asa Shigley, 1st Team; Aubrey Robinson, Allie Maki, and Bridgette Slates were honorable mention selections.

"Former VHS student athlete Per Lars Blomgren won the NAIA National Championship for Simon Fraser University in wrestling on Saturday, March 3, 2000."
"Per Lars was also named Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament and becomes Vashon High School's third NAIA All-American wrestler, preceded by his brother, Anders Blomgren, and by Rich Wheeler."
