are going to State as WIAA Regional 1A Boys Basketball Champions!

The Pirates defeated Kalama HS 59-38 Friday, February 27 @ Rogers HS (Puyallup)!

ON TO YAKIMA @ 22-1!!

Vashon Pirates Boys Basketball is going to State!

The Pirates defeated Kalama 59 - 38 after locking down their defense in the 2nd half.

Qualifying last in 2011 this year's team has been on a great run all season long.

Scoring for the team against Kalama were:

Jessie Norton 19
Sam Yates 16
Alex Symbol-Godfrey 6
Sam Schoenberg 3
Ian Stewart 12
Darren May Power 2

The State Tournament starts Thursday the 5th in Yakima and their opponent will be determined by Sunday.

GO PIRATES!!

Let's review: Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Final home game of the 2014-2015 season. Seniors' Night. At that point, the Pirates stood at 18-1 for the season, so not necessarily what you'd call a must-win game. Except that it's the last home game of the season, and Seniors' Night.

Up 16-10 end of the first quarter; down 25-32 at the half. hmm... Tied 32-32 early in the third, but then down 2 at 44-46 by the end of the third.

Fourth quarter: 48-46 at 5:07. Then strong work to get to 56-49 at 2:11. The Pirates were relentless on defense from there on: 59-52 with :30.2 left, 61-52 with :07.2 left, and that was it. 61-55 final. A fantastic final home game.

UPDATE #1: The Pirates played Charles Wright -- again -- in the first round of the 2015 District 3 1A Boys Basketball Tournament at Sumner on Tuesday February 17, and beat CWA -- again -- 56-50 in an absolute nail-biting overtime thriller!

UPDATE #2: The Pirates defeat Cascade Christian handily 55-35 Thursday, February 19 and are WIAA West Central District 3 1A Boys Basketball Champions! We got a trophy, and got to cut down the net! Next up: 1A Regionals, opponent and location to be decided this coming Sunday. Stay tuned!
