For the Vashon Island High School Class of 2014, 195 scholarship awards totalling over $138,000 were distributed to 93 graduating seniors who completed Scholarship Notebooks.
In addition to the generous scholarships provided by the Vashon Island community, the Vashon Community Scholarship Foundation contributes annual scholarships as well, which are financed from VCSF fundraisers and the VCSF endowment fund. This year $20,000 is being awarded to the Class of 2014 through these scholarhips, which range from $250 to $1,000. Every single student in good standing who applies will receive a scholarship.

And ... I've put as much time as I'm willing to into this game. Some pretty profound problems with camera motion (I was trying to use my collapsed tripod as a monopod) that were made worse by the 200mm zoom much of these were shot at. So, I got to learn a lot about Adobe Premier Pro's "Warp Stabilizer" but its only a crutch anyway, and really doesn't work on clips much over a minute in length.

So we're getting right down to it: last day of classes before Holiday Break, December 20, 2013.
First day of classes in the New Vashon Island High School, January 6, 2014.
In between, moving; resetting the construction perimeter to allow access to the new school and prepare for the A Building and B Building demolitions; a surplus sale on Saturday, January 4, 2014; a community Open House in the new school on Sunday, January 5, 2014. And moving.

The days are getting longer. Many parts of the new high school's building are starting to take shape.

Big question: how long before the building's shell is complete, and all the changes are hidden inside?

More and more of the actual building footprint, and the actual mass of the building, is becoming visible.

The Holidays happen. And Winter Sports. I finally make in down in daylight in early February. We wonder about the effects of a *really* long homerun. And find the Robert Rock and other memorials are still safe.

You can actually get the sense that there's going to be a building.

It had been about four weeks since I'd been down during the daylight hours. Steel!

Progress! The A Building Wall gets a make-over for Homecoming, and there's HVAC ducting going down where the floor of the Theater will be!

You can see roughed-in plumbing for the restrooms in the Theater/Music wing, and utilities conduits laid out in preparation for pouring the slab floor

About 45 minutes before game time. Parking was a little scarce out front, so people arrived early.
|

Looking across the front of the gym. C Building was dead straight ahead. B Building is off in the background. The A building is back off to the far right. The green stuff on the ground is new hydroseeding. In one sense you could say that this is the first part of the new Vashon Island High School to get finished.

This was really the first big deadline: on August 28, 2012, the admin staff and the teachers had to be able to get into the VHS buildings to start getting ready for the upcoming school year. Which meant that the construction perimeter had to be almost completely reset to the configuration that would be permanent through the majority of the construction cycle. Which meant that anything *outside* of that perimeter had to either be finished, or under secure cover. Skanska made it!

The C building was at those piles of gravel off in the background. The B building has had its north end cut off. You can see the temporary gravel walkway out to the Stadium right along the gym.
